Cawthorne Church Of England (VC) Primary School

Pupil Premium

'The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools with pupils on roll in January that are known to have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any time in the last six years or those children who are looked-after or previously looked-after. Each of these pupils will attract premium funding in line with the latest Government allocations.

Eligibility For Funding

Your child may be eligible for free school meals – and accordingly Pupil Premium Funding – if you receive any of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earning from up to three of your most recent assessment periods).
  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (with no Working Tax Credit) with an annual gross income of no more than £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (paid for the four weeks after the person stops qualifying for Working Tax Credit)

Please note, all children in Reception, Year 1 and 2 qualify for free school meals, regardless of family income, but only the children who would have qualified for free meals under the above income-based criteria will receive the additional Pupil Premium funding.

In 2025, changes made by Government regarding revised thresholds and increased eligibility for free school meals will not attract Pupil Premium Funding. Only families meeting the criteria listed above will be eligible for Pupil Premium Funding.

Schools will have the freedom to spend the Premium, which is additional to the underlying schools budget, in a way they think will best raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.' DfE Guidance.

Cawthorne Pupil Premium Objectives

  • The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils
  • The funding will be used to narrow and close the gap between the achievement of these pupils and their peers:

School Disadvantaged – School Other

School Disadvantaged – National Disadvantaged

School Disadvantaged – National Other

We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it the most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives

Pupil Premium Strategies Cawthorne CE (VC) Primary School will use the PPG funding in a number of imaginative ways in order to close the gap between disadvantaged pupils and other pupils in school and nationally. We will develop a carefully planned and comprehensive strategy in order to minimise and in many instances remove the barriers to learning and achievement.

Barriers to achievement
The main barriers to educational achievement that impact our children fall into the categories:

  • physical and material disadvantage (including some instances of poor housing and severe poverty)
  • Limited aspiration and expectation (which can manifest itself in a lack of parental engagement)
  • Reduced social and cultural capital (children may not be exposed to rich and varied experiences)
  • Reduced emotional wellbeing
